EX Dust Protected Equipment

ATEX Equipment > EX Dust Protected Equipment

Generally, electrical safety is ensured by the implementation of one of two considerations, i.e. that electrical apparatus be located where reasonably practicable outside hazardous areas and that electrical apparatus be designed, installed and maintained in accordance with measures recommended for the area in which the apparatus is located.

The Standards for dust protected equipment will be used and applied in the same way as the Standards for all equipment.

They specifies requirements in terms of

Design
Construction, and
Testing of electrical apparatus

There are currently four concepts, some are similar to the electrical protection concepts. The concepts are:

Standard - Description - Concept Letter
EN 61241-0 - Basic methods and requirements.
EN 61241-1 - Protection by enclosures - Concept - tD
EN 61241-2 - Protection bt pressurisation - Concept - pD

EN 61241-18 - Protection by Encapsulation - Concept - mD
